5 Things to Do in Downtown Lafayette

Lafayette Downtown

Lafayette's charming downtown is a vibrant hub for art and culture. Our real estate agents love spending time in Downtown Lafayette, and we're excited to share some of our favorite local attractions and activities in the area.

  1. Lafayette Science Museum - 433 Jefferson St, Lafayette, LA 70501
Located a stone's throw from many Lafayette homes for sale in the heart of Downtown, the Lafayette Science Museum is one of our city's true can't-miss attractions. The museum features a broad array of fascinating exhibits ranging from biology and meteorites to spacecraft and nanotechnology. The dinosaur and paleontology exhibits are especially striking, and the museum hosts a wide range of special events as well. Another notable feature of the Lafayette Science Museum is its planetarium, which offers dazzling programs on space and the night sky.

  2. Downtown Alive! - 200 Garfield St, Lafayette, LA 70501
Thousands of concertgoers flock to Downtown Lafayette several times each year for Downtown Alive!, the city's recurring outdoor concert series. This series has been a Lafayette staple for four decades now. Concerts take place on the first Friday of every month during spring and fall on a massive outdoor stage. The shows are completely free to the public and are accompanied by a drink tent and some great food trucks and vendors.

  3. Parc Sans Souci - 201 E Vermilion St, Lafayette, LA 70501
A charming little park in the heart of Downtown Lafayette, Parc Sans Souci is a community gathering place and a great place to enjoy the fresh air along with the sights and sounds of the city. It's close to most downtown restaurants and cafes, making it a convenient area to sit and sip a coffee or take a lunch break on the park benches. Parc Sans Souci also has water features that make it a popular place for kids to cool off during the summer months, and the park hosts numerous events throughout the year, like the Bach Lunch lunchtime concert series.

  4. Acadiana Center for the Arts - 101 W Vermilion St, Lafayette, LA 70501
Lafayette has a lot of great attractions for anyone with an interest in art. The Acadiana Center for the Arts is one of them. Established in 1975, the "AcA," as it is often called, is a community-supported nonprofit organization with a mission to foster art and culture in Acadiana. This large complex is conveniently located not far from these Acadiana open houses. The Acadiana Center for the Arts hosts various exhibitions, performances, and special events throughout the year, highlighting artistic fields ranging from oil painting and photography to theater and dance.

  5. Sans Souci Fine Crafts Gallery - 551 Jefferson St, Lafayette, LA 70501
A fixture of Downtown Lafayette's cultural district, the Sans Souci Fine Crafts Gallery is the flagship gallery of the Louisiana Crafts Guild. This space is entirely dedicated to the finest regional crafts, including glass, jewelry, printmaking, ceramics, weaving, metalworking, painting, photography, and woodworking in Acadiana.
